Atmos Rewards & Status Glossary
Definitions for the terms that come up when you are working through Atmos Rewards elite status — what a status point is, how oneworld tiers map to Atmos tiers, what a mileage run actually is, and what happened to MVP Gold 75K.
- Status PointThe Atmos Rewards currency that determines elite tier status. Earned from flying, credit card spend, and partner activity.
- Elite StatusA higher recognition level within an airline loyalty program, awarded for accumulating qualifying activity (flights, spend, segments) within a calendar year.
- Mileage RunA flight booked primarily to earn elite-qualifying miles or status points, rather than to actually travel somewhere.
- Status MatchWhen an airline grants you elite status equivalent to your existing status with a competing airline, usually as a customer-acquisition tool.
- Soft LandingA reduced elite tier you receive the year after you fail to fully re-qualify for your prior tier, softening the drop instead of demoting you to no status.
- oneworld RubyThe entry-level oneworld alliance status tier. Atmos Silver corresponds to oneworld Ruby.
- oneworld SapphireThe middle oneworld alliance status tier. Atmos Gold corresponds to oneworld Sapphire and unlocks business-class lounge access on international flights.
- oneworld EmeraldThe top oneworld alliance status tier. Atmos Platinum and Titanium both correspond to oneworld Emerald, unlocking first-class lounge access on international flights.
- MVP Gold 75KThe legacy Mileage Plan tier requiring 75,000 miles. Replaced by Atmos Platinum at 80,000 status points.
- Companion FareA benefit (typically tied to certain Atmos credit cards) letting a companion travel with you on Alaska Airlines for a fixed low fare ($99 plus taxes/fees).
