Soft Landing
A reduced elite tier you receive the year after you fail to fully re-qualify for your prior tier, softening the drop instead of demoting you to no status.
A soft landing is a courtesy elite tier some loyalty programs award when a member earns enough qualifying activity to retain partial status but not the full tier they previously held. Instead of dropping the member from (say) Platinum directly to no status, the program awards Gold for the next year — a "softer" landing.
Atmos Rewards has not formally announced soft-landing rules in 2026 — Alaska previously honored partial-qualification soft landings under Mileage Plan, and similar mechanics are expected under Atmos. Status earned in 2026 unlocks tier benefits through January 2028, so soft-landing implications first apply for 2027 / early 2028 members who do not re-qualify.
